Physical Education

The Physical Education program at Tapping Primary School is conducted by a specialist teacher, targeting fundamental movement skills and game awareness from Years 1 to 6.

It has been our goal at Tapping to offer a wide range of sports and activities to our students across all Year levels. It is designed to help students develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for confident, lifelong participation in sport and recreation activities, whilst enabling students to make responsible decisions about physical activity and promote their own and others’ health and wellbeing.

Junior Primary skills include:

  • body management skills including balance, stopping, landing, turning, stretching and dodging.
  • locomotion skills such as walking, running, jumping and leaping.
  • object control skills such as throwing, catching, bouncing, striking and rolling.

Middle and Upper Primary students focus on utilizing the skills learnt in the early years in modified game situations.  A varied program encourages students’ participation in physical activity and this includes:

  • Disc Golf (frolf).
  • team sports – basketball, netball, rugby league, soccer, ultimate frisbee, hockey (floorball), modcrosse, t-ball, cricket, spikeball (roundnet) and Australian Rules football.
  • swimming lessons (Pre-primary through to Year 6)
  • interschool competitions – cross country, winter lightning carnival and athletics
