Tapping History

 

Tapping Primary School is located 30km North of Perth. The school opened with 350 students and grew to approximately 700 students in the first year. We currently have over 840 students. The school population predominately reflects a large migrant population from Great Britain; however, there is over 30 different nationalities represented. We have 6 classroom teaching blocks all of which are air-conditioned. Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard and access to ICT connectivity. We offer specialist programs in Physical Education, Performing Arts and Languages. Tapping has specialist teachers in English and Mathematics. The school has 4 level 3 classroom teachers and 6 teachers that are GIR trained with a focus on literacy and numeracy. It is the sharing of this expertise that has enabled us to develop and deliver programs of the highest quality. Tapping Primary School is committed to working with the school community to implement the Australian Curriculum. We promote ‘inclusive’ work practices involving identifying, and removing barriers to the participation and achievement of all students and actively working with all stakeholders to ensure the school becomes an integral part of the community.

 

Tapping became an Independent Public School in 2013. IPS status meant we have more freedom to make decisions about important matters that impact on student’s education, such as curriculum, student support, financial management and accountability. Significantly, have complete control over the selection of teachers and other staff members that come to Tapping. This enables us the select teachers of the highest quality which, along with family support, is the single most important element in ensuring positive outcomes for all students.

 

Tapping Primary School is committed to working with the school community to implement the Australian Curriculum. We adopt a child centred approach that focuses on raising the level of social and emotional competencies in each child which will provide a strong foundation for future learning. We believe that there is nothing more important than strong, positive working relationships. Positive relationships allow everyone to achieve maximum potential and growth. We therefore encourage parent participation. We work with parents to offer opportunities to contribute. These include parent workshops, P&C meetings, participation through the School Board and a variety of opportunities to help in classrooms.

 

We want students to become responsible decision makers and a commitment to strong values. “Do the right thing because it is the right thing to do”. We can only achieve this outcome through processes in the classroom and school wide that promote reflection and education and not through manipulation using rewards, praise or punishments.
